Freddie Gray

Freddie Gray Jr was a 25-years-old man.  Illegally arrested for having a legal assisted opener, Gray later lost his life due to severe spinal cord trauma. Upon his arrest on April 12, a witness of the incident and Gray’s neighbor, Kevin Moore, said he saw an officer putting his knees on Gray’s neck while another folded his leg into his back. The official police report said that they “arrested without force or incident.” Polices then threw him into the back of a white van and drove a few blocks down the street to get away from the gathering civilian crowd. Officers took Gray out, shackled his legs and cuffed his hands, threw him back head first onto the van’s floor. Per procedure, the officers were supposed to buckle Gray in the seat of a moving car. The police made 4 stops to check on Gray, 2 of which there was no evidence for, and never once did they call for medical help. Arriving at the station, Gray was not breathing, only then did officers manage to finally call the paramedic. Not only was his spine damaged, his voice box was completely crushed. Gray died a week later in intensive care on April 19, 2015. The coroner ruled his official death as a homicide.
